MassChallenge HealthTech, formerly PULSE@ MassChallenge, the Commonwealth's Digital Health innovation lab, is located in Boston’s Seaport area and dedicated to digital health convening and innovation. On behalf of the Commonwealth, MeHI provided grant funding and strategic support to catalyze the creation of HealthTech.
HealthTech is designed to bring digital health innovators and the clinical community together to drive better and faster innovation. Programming at the hub includes a competitive startup program, mentoring, networking events, panel discussions, pitch contests, and co-working opportunities. HealthTech benefits from experiences and insights from both MassChallenge and TechSpring.

On June 1, 2016, MCHT, formerly PULSE@ MassChallenge, officially opened with a crowd of more than 400 entrepreneurs, public officials, and executives gathered to celebrate the launch of the digital health startup program and space. MeHI has provided the seed funding and support to catalyze the establishment of this startup hub in close proximity to the medical innovation community in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area. MeHI is the state’s entity for accelerating the competitiveness of this cluster through the Mass Digital Health Initiative, a public-private partnership built to meet that goal.
On June 13, 2017, MCHT, formerly PULSE@ MassChallenge, celebrated their first year in operation by awarding the top participants in their first ever class with over $200,000 prizes. Over 600 members of the region’s digital health community, including Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, gathered at the Wilbur Theater to honor the first 31 participants in the program.
Before the awards were distributed, Governor Baker, the keynote speaker, announced that PULSE@ MassChallenge received a second grant from the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative of $170,000 to provide support for digital health start-ups, including mentoring, strategic partner matching, targeted education, co-working spaces, start-up accelerators, and other programming.

On June 5, 2018, MCHT, formerly PULSE@ MassChallenge, celebrated their second year as the state’s largest digital health accelerator by awarding the top participants in their current class with over $200,000 prizes. Over 800 members of the region’s digital health community, including Massachusetts Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, gathered at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center to honor the 32 participants in the program.
MeHI joined the Health Policy Commission to announce that the Commonwealth will double its annual commitment to MCHT, bringing the total investment to $340,000 over the next year.

On June 25, 2019, MassChallenge, awarded more than $200K in cash prizes to six elite digital health startups from the 2019 HealthTech accelerator. Virtually on September 10th, 2020, MassChallenge awarded more than $300,000, earning more revenue and funding from the previous year’s cohort, creating jobs, and launching numerous pilots with our industry Champions while also providing MCHT with its highest NPS to date (88 NPS). All of this was accomplished with the added complexity of navigating a global pandemic.
Over 350 applicants from around the world applied to the 2020 accelerator program last fall. After a rigorous judging process, 27 of the top digital health startups joined the 2020 cohort after receiving and accepting over 100 partnership offers from MassChallenge HealthTech Champions. Throughout the six-month program, these startups would work closely with their Champion partners to accelerate their innovations and received resources, feedback, and mentorship from the MCHT team.

Virtually on June 2nd, 2021, the event kicked off with the theme ‘Celebrating Innovation in Tech and Wealth’. The Welcome was delivered by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, Siobhan Dullea, CEO of MassChallenge, and Devon Sherman, SVP & Managing Director of MassChallenge HealthTech & FinTech. This was a virtual celebration of innovation and creativity in healthcare and financial services. This event featured 60 startups from the 2021 cohorts, and explored the ties between health and financial wellbeing and the growing opportunity for innovation.
