Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI) grantee Stellar Sleep, the winner of the 2022 COVID-19 Innovations to Support Healthcare Providers Challenge, recently announced that they raised $6 million in seed financing.
Stellar Sleep’s solution is poised to transform sleep health for the 25 million Americans battling chronic insomnia, defined as having sleep problems three or more nights a week over the course of three or more months. Chronic insomnia is typically rooted in deep psychological challenges and Stellar Sleep is the first digital solution designed to help people manage those root causes.
According to co-founder George Wang, MeHI’s support has been instrumental in demonstrating the effectiveness of their solution. As the winner of the Challenge, Stellar Sleep received a $100,000 grant to conduct a placebo-controlled clinical study with a highly respected principal investigator, Dr. Sogol Javaheri at Brigham and Women's Hospital, with the support of the Brigham Digital Innovation Hub, a member of the Digital Health Sandbox program.
In addition, Wang says, the connections Stellar Sleep has formed through MeHI have been invaluable, significantly advancing both their mission and their network, and “pivotal in both our clinical and community growth.”
Going forward, Stellar Sleep plans to improve personalization for their users and expand their content to cover even more root causes of chronic insomnia, partnering with sleep clinicians to ensure that their content accurately reflects the evolving types of insomnia cases seen in clinical practice.
